Three digital windows – five stories
Hamsunsenteret is the national center dedicated to the author and Nobel Prize winner Knut Hamsun (1859-1952). It is a spectacular building surrounded by breathtaking nature in Hamarøy, Nordland.
Netron has worked closely with the Hamsun Center and experts on Hamsun’s literary work to create a new installation. This installation highlights the different aspects of Knut Hamsun that made him controversial, both in his time and still today. Five specialists, each from their own field and perspective, speak directly to the audience from three large standing screens hanging from the ceiling in the exhibition. These are powerful and direct perspectives that are both visual and engaging, appealing to both experts and those unfamiliar with Hamsun.
In this project, we also collaborated closely with Torsteinsen Design and Blæst Design. They were responsible for the design and concept of the physical exhibition, while we delivered the film and digital content.
The process
The process involved the following steps; Processing the material, discussing communication strategies and dramaturgy, collaborative scriptwriting and Direction, filming, editing, and design and animation. We spent time understanding how to optimally use the surfaces for tempo and composition, given that the screens are spread throughout the room. We used VR and created ongoing visualizations to get an impression of how the screens would be positioned in the space. It takes some time to understand this, and it is always exciting to see how it feels just before the opening. Our experience once again showed that the VR experience closely matches the physical experience. What one doesn’t get as clear a picture of is how the light interacts in the room, how other visitors affect the experience, and, most importantly, where they stand to view the installation.
